Happy New Year to all of my readers! I had intended to write this blog post about something I did for my boyfriend before Christmas that was really fun and surprising, but it sort of morphed into a New Years themed post, which is fitting I suppose. (Check in next week for the fun and surprising thing... it'll be worth it).
2014 was an up and down year for us. Someone very close to us died, we had an amazing multi-month and multi-continent trip, and I officially opened Surprise Me Events. It was a tumultuous year to say the least.
I am not typically one for New Years resolutions. In the past I have been found guilty of breaking them. But this year I felt I needed to make one important resolution and it was this: be more positive!
I have always thought of myself as a positive person but this past year has strained that positivity. And without realizing it I was getting into negative self-talk. It wasn't difficult. It turns out starting a new business takes a lot of your energy and commitment, and that energy and commitment can take a long time to pay off! (who knew??).
So at the end of 2014 I was in a bit of a low spell. It was good timing (if such things can be) because I absolutely love Christmas, it is by far my favourite time of year, despite Vancouver's typical Christmas weather. And when the excitement of the holidays ended, I started thinking about the new year and how I wanted it to be. And the way it looked in my head was so different than what the end of 2014 looked like.
So here I am, with a new commitment to myself, and now to all of you. And I find that the simple act of making that commitment has already effected my outlook on 2015. I am determined to go into this new year with positivity, strength, and creativity, and throw myself whole-heartedly into my business.
I will leave you with this amazing quote by Oprah (of course right?):
That's the idea that I take into 2015 with me. I would love to hear from all of you about any reflections on 2014 or resolutions you have made for 2015. Post your comments below! Check back next week to read about that fun and surprising thing I did for my boyfriend... it's not just for Christmas! I wish you your best year yet!
Oh and if you haven't seen Surprise Me Events' new video, please take the time to check it out (it's only 2 minutes long!). You can see it right on the homepage or on YouTube here. Thanks to Jamie from Whisper Media for the amazing video!
